Abstract

Recycling of excess gases in oil refining units is important both in terms of reducing environmental problems and creating added value. In this research, the simulation of surplus gas-recycling unit in the Tabriz Oil Refining Company has been done using Aspen-HYSYS software. The simulation of this process was investigated in two models using the liquid ring and centrifugal compressors. The results show that the liquid ring compressor is superior to the centrifugal compressor in terms of temperature control in two stages of the compression process. In the process of separation of liquid and gas phases, the second model with a centrifugal compressor shows a higher percentage of normal hexane separation (16.9%) than the first model as an indicator hydrocarbon. In the sweetening process of flare gases, both models showed the same performance by fully absorbing H2S and CO2 in the streamline. Besides, the two models have almost the same conditions in terms of energy consumption in equipment. The results of this study show the ability to use a centrifugal compressor in the absence of access to the liquid ring compressor in similar units.
